Diploma from German secondary school (Max von Laue) 1960 in Koblenz/Rhein. Medical undergraduate training in Bonn and Marburg (Germany). Graduation Dr. med in 1968 (summa cum laude).Postgraduate training in pediatry, pathology, internal medicine surgery, gynecology. Since 1969 postgraduate training in dermatology in Homburg/Saar and at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität ( Prof. Otto Braun-Falco) in Munich. 1970 Research Fellow of the German Research Foundation at the Skin Cancer Unit of the New Yoru University Hospital. Habilitation treatise dealing with "Cutaneous Lymphoprolifertive Disorders" in 1975. 1988 appointments for chairmanships in Berlin, Mainz and Würzburg (Germany). 1988-1991 Chairman of the Department of Dermatology of the University of Würzburg. 1991 appointet chairman of the Department of Dermatology, Venerology, and Allergology of the University of Zürich (Switzerland). 1988-1999 Vicedean and 2000-2004 Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Zürich. 2006 Retirement.

  • Comprehensive revision and WHO-classification of cutaneous lymphomas, based on morphological, cytochemical, immunological, and molecular grounds
  • Pattern-diagnosis of lymphoproliferative skin infiltrates (T- and B-cell pattern)
  • Characterisation of CD 30 positive infiltrates in lymphomatoid papulosis
  • Contact-allergy-time (CAT) for the evaluation of the immune status
